This week's PhonepayPlus Forum introduced a discussion paper around the upcoming consultation for their 12th Code of Practice. It was also the platform for the release of their Annual Review, the headline of which was that mobile complaints are significantly down, year on year.

Premium phone paid services regulator, PhonepayPlus generally receives a lot of flak from the industry it regulates.  Sometimes it's justified, sometimes it isn't.  Bodies with the authority to regulate and punish seldom win popularity contests or gratitude, even after resolving issues.

In-application upselling is set to exceed $14billion by 2014, according to the latest Juniper Research report.  Juniper says the ‘freemium' business model, in which free-to-download applications are monetised through subsequent micropayments from within the application, will become increasingly prevalent.

  The Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007 introduced a new offence of corporate manslaughter which applies to corporate bodies in both the public and private sectors. It only applies in circumstances where an organisation owed a duty of care to the victim under the law of negligence. The offence can be punishable by an unlimited fine and orders for remedial action.
