If you just want to be told today's word, you can jump to the bottom of this article for May 6's Wordle solution revealed. But if you'd rather solve it yourself, keep reading for some clues, tips, and strategies to assist you.

Where did Wordle come from?

Originally created by engineer Josh Wardle as a gift for his partner, Wordle rapidly spread to become an international phenomenon, with thousands of people around the globe playing every day. Alternate Wordle versions created by fans also sprang up, including battle royale Squabble, music identification game Heardle, and variations like Dordle and Quordle that make you guess multiple words at once

Wordle eventually became so popular that it was purchased by the New York Times, and TikTok creators even livestream themselves playing.

And just like Wordle, Connections resets after midnight and each new set of words gets trickier and trickier—so we've served up some hints and tips to get you over the hurdle.

If you just want to be told today's puzzle, you can jump to the end of this article for May 7's Connections solution. But if you'd rather solve it yourself, keep reading for some clues, tips, and strategies to assist you.

What is Connections?

The NYT's latest daily word game has become a social media hit. The Times credits associate puzzle editor Wyna Liu with helping to create the new word game and bringing it to the publications' Games section. Connections can be played on both web browsers and mobile devices and require players to group four words that share something in common.

Tweet may have been deleted

Each puzzle features 16 words and each grouping of words is split into four categories. These sets could comprise of anything from book titles, software, country names, etc. Even though multiple words will seem like they fit together, there's only one correct answer. If a player gets all four words in a set correct, those words are removed from the board. Guess wrong and it counts as a mistake—players get up to four mistakes until the game ends.

Players can also rearrange and shuffle the board to make spotting connections easier. Additionally, each group is color-coded with yellow being the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple. Like Wordle, you can share the results with your friends on social media.

Here's a hint for today's Connections categories

Want a hit about the categories without being told the categories? Then give these a try:

Tesla just laid off more employees after gutting the entire charging team

Mashable - Mon, 05/06/2024 - 23:45

Tesla isn't done with laying off workers.

According to reports from Business Insider and Electrek, Elon Musk's EV car company laid off more employees over the weekend. With these latest cuts, Tesla has now entered its fourth week of layoffs.

It's unclear just how many workers lost their jobs at Tesla in this latest round of layoffs. At least seven employees have confirmed being laid off from their jobs in Tesla's software, services, and engineering departments.

"After watching my team gradually slimmed down week after week since mid-April, I received the dreaded 'Hello Employee' email this Sunday afternoon," according to a LinkedIn post from a now-former Tesla employee (via Business Insider).

Tesla's bad year

Tesla's first quarterly report of the year saw the company's earnings tumble by nine percent, falling well short of what experts and analysts predicted. Tesla sales and profits have dropped by around 50 percent year-over-year.

Then, just last month, Tesla issued a recall for its new Cybertruck after consumers reported a very serious issue where the acceleration pedal could get stuck on the vehicle. Unlike most other Tesla recalls where the company can just issue a software update, this Cybertruck recall requires physical service for all 3,878 Cybertrucks that have already been delivered to customers.

In addition, the issue caused Tesla to temporarily halt Cybertruck production and deliveries.

Tesla's 2024 layoffs…so far

Tesla's layoffs began in mid-April as the company set out to cut around 10 of its 140,000 member workforce to deal with the company's issues. Around 14,000 people were laid off in that round of cuts.

However, shortly after those layoffs, it was reported that Musk was looking to cut closer to 20 percent of Tesla's workers. Musk said he wanted Tesla to get "absolutely hardcore about headcount and cost reduction."

Just last week, Tesla laid off yet another round of workers. This time, however, Tesla gutted an entire team. Around 500 employees in Tesla's "Supercharger" charging network division were laid off from the company.

While it seems this latest round of layoffs is much smaller than the previous ones so far, it also suggests that Tesla is not quite done with getting "absolutely hardcore" when it comes to cuts.

'Apple Pencil Pro' tipped for Apple May 7 event: 3 new features it could have

Mashable - Mon, 05/06/2024 - 23:19

Could an Apple Pencil Pro be on the way? Apple has teased that a new Apple Pencil is on the way, as we can see in the promo image on the Apple Events page.

However, what we weren't expecting is a "pro" variant of the iPad stylus. As spotted by X user @ribu_ap712, code on Apple's Japan-based website hints that a brand-spankin' new Apple Pencil Pro could be revealed at the May 7 Apple livestream event.

Tweet may have been deleted Apple Pencil Pro: 3 possible new features

Confirmed by Mashable, the Japan-based website does, indeed, mention Apple Pencil Pro in a code that yields an interactive animation on the front end.

Here is, in part, a translation of the text:

Folds of green, yellow, orange, and blue paper are bent to form the Apple logo. Inside the logo, you can see the hand of a creator holding an Apple Pencil Pro, attempting to draw. From the tip of the Apple Pencil Pro pressed against the bottom of the logo, lively splashes of orange and pink burst forth, creating vivid waves upwards.

Although the rumor mill, until now, hasn't said anything about a "Pro" variant being released on May 7, we still have some scuttlebutt about the new features that the new iPad stylus will offer.

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, an Apple prognosticator with a decent track record, the latest Apple Pencil will have haptic feedback "for the first time."

As 9to5Mac pointed out, there were multiple instances in the iPadOS 17.5 beta code that reference something called a "squeeze gesture," hinting that users may be able to trigger certain functions by pinching the stylus.

And according to another leak from bean spiller Majin Bu on X, the next Apple Pencil may have interchangeable magnetic tips.

It's unclear, though, whether these features are for the rumored Apple Pencil Pro or another Apple Pencil tier.

Hank Green says TikTok won't tell him how much it's paying him

Mashable - Mon, 05/06/2024 - 21:26

TikTok has other priorities at the moment, but Hank Green would love it if the platform could tell him how much it's paid him since January.

In an appearance on The New York Times' Hard Fork podcast, Green told hosts Kevin Roose and Casey Newton that his TikTok dashboard hadn't been updated for several months and that it displays his payouts in British pounds (Green is a longtime resident of Montana).

Green shared the tidbit as part of a larger conversation about how creators will weather the impending sale (or ban) of the platform. When asked if the money he's made on TikTok has changed since he posted a 2022 YouTube video about TikTok's Creator Fund, Green said, "It'd be nice if I knew how much money I made. I have no idea, it hasn't updated since January. It's broken. It thinks I'm British. It's paying me in pounds."

SEE ALSO: Here's how the TikTok ban will likely play out in the courts

He also added, "The thing to remember about TikTok is that like it's not super together," by which he meant that internally, TikTok cannot keep up with its rapid growth.

Newton then noted how that kind of chaos may have led to the ban in the first place: If your creators aren't happy, they're not likely to organize in favor of keeping you around. And if Hank Green, one of the most prominent creators on the platform, is having trouble understanding how much the platform pays him, then it's likely that many smaller creators are struggling with similar issues in silence.

Apple snuck new interactive animation to ‘Let Loose’ promo, teasing a new feature

Mashable - Mon, 05/06/2024 - 19:24

We're ready for the Apple "Let Loose" event to start now. No more teasing.

But it looks like Apple wants to keep dangling carrots in our faces. Just a day before it's slated to livestream the announcements of some new iPads, Apple updated its homepage with some new teaser artwork for the event, which still depicts an Apple Pencil — but something different happens when you place your cursor over it.

SEE ALSO: Wild Apple rumors for 2025 and beyond: Foldable devices, new 'Slim' iPhone What could the new interactive logo be hinting at?

If you move your mouse over the logo, the graphic will begin to erase itself. The current-gen Apple Pencils still don't have a way to erase across all apps, so according to MacRumors, that could be one new feature coming to the device.

The inclusion of an Apple Pencil at all seems to suggest that this event could feature a refresh of the popular iPad stylus, which hasn't gotten a high-end update since 2018. There was a "new" Apple Pencil last year, but it was more of a budget model — its biggest change was a new USB-C charging port. 9to5Mac reported recently that the new Apple Pencil model will have a squeeze gesture, though it's not clear yet if that has anything to do with the new eraseable logo.

Of course, we also expect to hear about at least four new iPads at this event too: two new iPad Pro models, and two new iPad Air models. Maybe the new Pencil will work beautifully with those.

Check out our last-minute predictions regarding Apple's May 7 "Let Loose" livestream.

How to use Bumble, and is it better than Tinder?

Mashable - Mon, 05/06/2024 - 18:48

Despite many new additions to the dating app landscape, Bumble continues to be one of the most popular apps with 58 million users in 2023, according to Business of Apps. The app remains in close competition with Tinder as a "top" dating app. But what is Bumble — and is it better than Tinder?

What is Bumble?

Bumble is a dating app created in 2014 by Whitney Wolfe Herd. Wolfe Herd was CEO of Bumble until the start of 2024, when she stepped down (though remains as executive chair) and Lidiane Jones became CEO.

SEE ALSO: Bumble revamps the 'first move' and other features

Since its start, Bumble has been known for "women making the first move." For users seeking heterosexual connections, only women users could message male matches first. These users had 24 hours from the time they matched to send a message, and the match then had another 24 hours to reply — or else the match disappeared. For same-sex connections, anyone could message first. In the case of nonbinary users, Bumble allowed them to message first since 2022.

In a March 2024 interview with Fortune, new Bumble CEO Lidiane Jones hinted that Bumble was rethinking "women making the first move" due to dating app fatigue. By the end of April, Bumble announced changes to its app including the "first move."

A new Bumble feature is "Opening Moves," a prompt question women (and users seeking same-sex connections) can set so a match can technically message them first. Other additions Bumble recently made include expanding Dating Intentions and the amount of photos users must have on their profile (four as opposed to two).

Creating a Bumble account

To create an account on Bumble, sign up with your Facebook account, Apple ID, or your phone number. From there, the app will prompt you to create your profile. You'll type in your name, add your birthday and your gender, and what gender matches you're looking for: men, women, nonbinary people, or some combination of the three.

Bumble will then ask for your Dating Intentions. Since the recent update, the options are:

  • A long-term relationship

  • A life partner

  • Fun, casual dates

  • Intimacy, without commitment

  • Ethical non-monogamy

  • Marriage

You can select up to two, or skip this.

From there, add your interests — hobbies and activities you enjoy. You can also add qualities and traits you value (i.e. ambition and empathy) and causes you care about (i.e. feminism and trans rights).

Bumble has also updated prompts to engender conversation, like "I'm known for..." and "I'm a real nerd about..."

Bumble now mandates users upload four photos of themselves on the app. Afterwards, users must accept a "kindness pledge," promising to be respectful. Over the years, Bumble has cracked down on "bad behavior" like cyberbullying and flaking. The app has also added an AI-powered tool to weed out scam profiles.

Bumble's new Dating Intentions and Opening Moves features. Credit: Bumble Bumble Premium and Bumble Boost

You can use Bumble for free, but the app also has two paid options: Bumble Premium and Bumble Boost.

Here are the prices listed for Bumble Premium subscriptions as of 2024:

  • 1 week at $27.99

  • 1 month at $54.99

  • 3 months at $109.99

Alternatively, there's Bumble Boost, which is cheaper. Prices are:

  • 1 week at $14.99

  • 1 month at $29.99

  • 3 months at $49.99

With Bumble Boost, users can backtrack (reverse a left swipe); extend time on matches for an additional 24 hours; receive unlimited swipes, one Spotlight per week (putting your profile at the top of the swiping "stack"), and five SuperSwipes a week (letting a potential match know beforehand that you want to match).

Premium members receive all those perks, plus unlimited Advanced Filters; the ability to rematch with expired matches; Travel Mode (swipe anywhere you want to); and seeing everyone who's already liked you (aka your Beeline); and Incognito Mode.

How many likes do you get on Bumble?

After completing your profile and preferences, it's time to swipe. Bumble is similar to Tinder: swipe left to dislike, right to like. Scroll down to view more of a viewer's profile. Bumble doesn't give a specific number of swipes free accounts have per day, but if the app notices you're on a frenzy, they'll limit your swipes.

When do you get more likes on Bumble?

Once Bumble restricts your swipes, you'll be able to swipe again after 24 hours.

How does Bumble work?

If you're a woman, you have 24 hours to respond to a match, or else it disappears — barring your one extension per day on a free account or your match replying to your Opening Move. Once you message, it's in your match's hands. If they don't message back within 24 hours, the match expires too. Should both of you message, the match won't go away unless you manually report or unmatch the other person.

If you're a man looking for other men, you can set an Opening Move.

You don't have to use Bumble to date ("Bumble Date"), however. There's Bumble BFF, for those looking for platonic relationships, and Bumble Bizz, a networking offshoot. The UX is similar, where you swipe to match with users. Users can only choose one setting at a time, though.

Is Bumble better than Tinder?

Given Tinder's less than stellar reputation, one may ask whether Bumble is the better option. Their interface is similar, so if you don't like swiping, neither Tinder nor Bumble is the dating app for you.

If you don't mind swiping, and you're into Bumble's "first move" or Opening Move ethos, give it a shot. The app's 24-hour rule on both sides, however, can be daunting. Sometimes you may not be in the mood to chat right away, or you may be swiping during a work break and forget to check back in. Tinder doesn't have time restraints.

Tinder also doesn't have alternative services like Bumble BFF or Bizz. If you're already in a relationship but looking for a different kind of connection, Bumble is your best bet.

There's also chatter about the "types" of people you'd find Tinder versus Bumble, like that users on the latter are more serious than those on the former. Given that Tinder has resulted in long-term relationships and marriages — and so has Bumble — I don't take stock in those assumptions. These days, people are on all types of dating apps for all different reasons; the specific app may not matter.

Users on Bumble may be looking for marriage — or something less serious. Credit: Vicky Leta / Mashable What are the pros and cons to Bumble?

Pros:

  • Bumble is free to use (but some features — like seeing who already liked you — are only available for Premium users)

  • Women message first or set an Opening Move

  • Matches must match each other within 24 hours — a pro if you want to avoid flakes

  • Bumble has fun prompts to answer to get to know your match better

  • Bumble BFF and Bumble Bizz make it possible to either make friends or add to your professional network

Cons:

  • Some features, like Incognito Mode and Advanced Filters, are for paid users only

  • Matches disappear if both people don't message within 24 hours, unless free members use their one extension/day or members have Boost or Premium accounts

  • Some users may not like the new Opening Moves feature, as men can now message first

  • You can only use one mode of Bumble (Date, BFF, or Bizz) at a time

SEE ALSO: Swipe, chat, get laid: The best hookup apps for casual encounters How does Bumble work for guys? What about LGBTQ people?

For straight people, women message first unless they set an Opening Move. In that case, men can message first.

If you're looking for same-sex connections, either match can set an Opening Move or message first. If you're nonbinary, you can message first on Bumble.

Bumble is a popular dating app that, like any, has its advantages and disadvantages. The only way to see if the "buzz" is worth it is to try it out for yourself.

(Note: Check out our iPhone 16 rumor hub. If may find that neither model in the iPhone 15 series does it for you, you can always wait for the next iteration.)

SEE ALSO: iPhone 16 rumors: Release date, price, specs, features, and more iPhone 15 vs. iPhone 15 Pro: price

The iPhone 15 has a starting price of $800 via Apple's official website and it comes with the following specs:

  • 128GB of storage

  • 6GB of RAM

  • A16 Bionic chipset

  • 6.1-inch display

Keep in mind that you can get more storage, but it'll cost you. If you want 256GB of storage, the iPhone 15 will set you back $900. Speaking from experience, I'd recommend getting the 256GB variant, particularly if you love hoarding photos and videos. Otherwise, the 128GB model will haunt you with a "storage full" error, forcing you to delete your treasured media content within a year (or less) of use.

If you're a big spender, you can get the iPhone 15 with 512GB of storage, which costs $1,100. But if you have enough money to spend on that, you'd be better off upgrading to the iPhone 15 Pro with 256GB of storage, which is exactly the same price.

Speaking of the iPhone 15 Pro, it has a starting price of $1,000 via Apple's official website and comes with the following specs:

  • 128GB of storage

  • 8GB of RAM

  • A17 Pro

  • 6.1-inch display

The most expensive iPhone 15 Pro, packed with 1TB of storage, will set you back $1,500. But again, if you have that kind of money to blow, you might as well upgrade to the iPhone 15 Pro Max with 512GB of storage, which costs $100 less at $1,400.

Again, I'd recommend upgrading to at least 256GB of storage if you have a treasure trove of media you'd like to store. However, if you don't mind deleting a few stuff along the way, or you have cloud storage, the 128GB variant should be fine.

Cue Sia singing "Titanium" at the top of her lungs! The iPhone 15 Pro's biggest selling point is that it consists of a titanium frame, making it lighter and more durable than its predecessor's stainless-steel chassis.

The iPhone 15, wrapped in an aluminum enclosure, doesn't have a hint of titanium. Womp, womp! It is, however, a little lighter than its Pro sibling (6.03 ounces vs. 6.6 ounces).

As far as colors are concerned, I'd argue that the iPhone 15's colors are more fun.

The iPhone 15 comes in five fun colors. Credit: Apple

It comes in five colors:

  • Pink

  • Yellow

  • Green

  • Blue

  • Black

The iPhone 15 Pro is a little bit more bougie — more mature and sophisticated.

The iPhone 15 Pro's colors are a lot more neutral. Credit: Apple

Its colors are more urbane, subtle, and minimalist:

  • Natural Titanium

  • Blue Titanium

  • White Titanium

  • Black Titanium

One subtle difference between the two phones is the iPhone 15 Pro's Action Button feature located on the left side of the chassis. The iPhone 15, on the other hand, still has a very boring mute switch instead. What's so great about the Action Button? You can customize it to launch any app or task you want.

For example, with my iPhone 15 Pro Max, I've set the Action Button to launch the Notes app since I use it so frequently, but the possibilities are endless. You can set up the Action Button to launch whatever app you want.

iPhone 15 vs. iPhone 15 Pro: display

The iPhone 15 and the iPhone 15 Pro actually share the same display size: 6.1 inches. If you want something bigger (e.g., 6.7 inches), consider getting the iPhone 15 Plus or the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

Dynamic Island is here to stay. Credit: Stan Schroeder / Mashable

They also have the same resolution: 2,256 x 1,179 pixels

Although the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro Max share the same screen size, they do not have the same display tech. The iPhone 15 does not have ProMotion technology nor does it have an Always-On display — but the Pro model has both of these perks.

What's ProMotion? It's just a fancy term for, "This phone has a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz." In other words, the iPhone 15 Pro has a zippier display that adapts to your workflow. If you're simply scrolling through an article, the refresh rate will slowdown. However, if you fire up a fast-paced mobile game, the refresh rate will pick up.

Conversely, the iPhone 15 has a refresh rate of 60Hz, which will feel slower only if you've ever owned a phone with a refresh rate of 90Hz or higher. And for the uninitiated, an Aways-On display lets you get information like time, widgets, and more at a glance because — well — the screen is always on. I can't say the same for the iPhone 15.

Both have the snazzy Dynamic Island featured at the top of the display, and plus, the duo can climb to a peak brightness of 2,000, according to Apple.

iPhone 15 vs. iPhone 15 Pro: cameras

Cameras are one of the biggest selling points smartphones, and as you might have guessed, the iPhone 15 Pro has an edge over the iPhone 15. Here's a break down of the camera specs:

iPhone 15
  • Wide camera - 48MP

  • Ultrawide camera - 12MP

  • Selfie camera - 12MP

  • No telephoto

iPhone 15 Pro
  • Wide camera - 48MP

  • Ultrawide camera - 12MP

  • Selfie camera - 12MP

  • Telephoto (3X optical zoom)

Unlike the iPhone 15 Pro, the iPhone 15 does not have a telephoto lens, which means that zoomed-in shots will have a dip in quality. It's also worth nothing that the iPhone 15 Pro's ultrawide lens has a slightly wider aperture, which means low-light shots should be better.

If you're a telephoto lens stan, you're going to want to go Pro. Credit: Stan Schroeder / Mashable

The iPhone 15, unlike the iPhone 15 Pro, does not support macro photography, Apple ProRAW, nor Night Mode portraits. (This isn't to be confused with Night Mode, which the iPhone 15 does have.)

iPhone 15 vs. iPhone 15 Pro: performance

The iPhone 15 Pro, without a doubt, is zippier and beastlier than the iPhone 15, thanks to its new A17 Pro Bionic chip. Meanwhile, the iPhone 15 sports the chipset featured inside the iPhone 14 Pro models: the A16 Bionic.

The iPhone 15 Pro is more of a powerhouse. Credit: Stan Schroeder / Mashable

Truth be told, the A16 Bionic is still a stellar, breakneck chip that is actually overpowered for what's needed for mobile tasks, so imagine the herculean power behind the A17 Pro.

Without getting into the weeds of things, just know that the A17 Pro is capable of cutting-edge AI computations and graphics. So much so that high-fidelity games like Resident Evil Village, Death Stranding, and Assassin's Creed Mirage will be headed to the iPhone 15 Pro soon.

It's also worth noting that the iPhone 15 has 6GB of RAM while the iPhone 15 Pro has 8GB of RAM. This means that latter will do a better job at juggling multiple tasks simultaneously (e.g., switching between a bunch of apps should be faster).

iPhone 15 vs. iPhone 15 Pro: battery life

Apple ran a video playback test on the iPhone 15 and it lasted 20 hours on a single charge. Compare that to the iPhone 15 Pro, which lasted 23 hours on the same test.

iPhone 15 vs. iPhone 15 Pro: Which should you buy?

To sum it all up, the iPhone 15 Pro has an Action Button that I believe is totally underrated — the iPhone 15 doesn't have one. Plus, the iPhone 15 Pro has a better camera system. If taking better zoomed-in shots are important to you, it'd be worth it to shell out an extra $200.

If you enjoy mobile gaming, with the iPhone 15 Pro getting a GPU boost from its A17 Pro chipset, the upper-tier model is a better choice for you.

However, if neither of those bells and whistles tickle your fancy, you'll be fine with the entry-level iPhone 15.

Save $15 when you spend $100 on a Lyft gift card at Amazon

Mashable - Mon, 05/06/2024 - 18:40

Save $15: As of May 6, you can save $15 (15%) when you spend $100 on a virtual Lyft gift card at Amazon.

Opens in a new window Credit: Lyft Spend $100, save $15 on Lyft gift cards Get Deal

With your singular chance at a first ride promo being but a distant memory, the elusive treat that is a ride share promo is one that we've learned to treasure. As of May 6, Lyft users have a chance to save $15 when they buy a $100 Lyft gift card at Amazon.

$15 off of $100 is technically only 15% off, but we all know that $15 is major when you're debating $40 one way. A 15% discount trumps the typical 10% off Lyft randomly hands out to current users, anyway, as well as the $10 off $100 discount currently being offered on Uber gift cards at Amazon.

SEE ALSO: Lyft is killing surge pricing to siphon off Uber customers

Be sure to click "Apply promotion" before choosing a gift card design and adding it to your cart. The offer should automatically apply at checkout, bringing your total to as low as $85 — or more, if you decide to bump the denomination to more than $100. The gift card will be sent to the email address of your choice for the recipient to add to their Lyft app.

A Lyft gift card would make a great graduation gift or birthday gift that anyone will use, though we'd also back just sending it to yourself.

YouTube launches new AI 'Jump Ahead' feature. Here's how to use it.

Mashable - Mon, 05/06/2024 - 18:35

YouTube is officially launching its AI-powered "Jump Ahead" feature for Premium users.

Back in March, YouTube began testing a way for users to skip ahead to the most interesting parts of a video, determined by user watching data and AI predictions. Now, the experiment is out of beta. It's rolling out to YouTube Premium users — but only on Android for now.

SEE ALSO: YouTube is excited about pause screen ads — and they're coming for your TV first

For viewers who are just trying to get to the good stuff, this could be a useful way to skip the filler content in bloated videos. It might also be a powerful incentive to sign up for YouTube Premium, which the streaming giant has been pushing hard for in other ways, like potentially adding pause screen ads and cracking down on ad-blockers for free accounts. Our attention spans are already minuscule, but there's also the unsettling feeling that YouTube is using AI to shave them down even further.

How to use 'Jump Ahead'

Per 9to5Google, when you double tap to skip ahead 10 seconds, you'll see a "Jump Ahead" button on the bottom righthand corner of the screen. If you tap this, text over the video says, "Skipping over commonly skipped section." So instead of jumping ahead by 10 seconds, it's taking to you what has been deemed "the next best point a viewer typically skips ahead to." Again, this feature is trained by granular watch data, as well as your own watching habits, so YouTube is leveraging AI to take you to specific points in the video that you likely want to see.

In addition to the "Jump ahead" button, YouTube has also been testing an AI-powered "Ask" button, which lets Premium users ask specific questions about a video or find related content through a chatbot interface, without interrupting playback.

Premium users can test out both features on youtube.com/new. "Jump ahead" is available until June 1 and "Ask" is available until May 21. After that, YouTube might extend the deadlines or move it out of the testing phase and deploy them as official features.

It's not every day the Kindle Paperwhite goes on sale. In fact, at $114.99 as of May 6, this is the biggest discount the device has seen since Black Friday. Although it's not the lowest discount to date, it's likely the best price you'll see until Prime Day in July. The Paperwhite is a "nearly perfect" device, according to Mashable's Alex Perry. This 16GB model was released in late 2022 and doubled the capacity of the original model. In other words, it can fit thousands more books in its virtual library. Otherwise, the features are largely the same as the previous iteration: a 6.8-inch display that glows under any lighting, a waterproof design, an adjustable warm light, a 10-week battery life, and a flawless form factor fit for one-handed readers. Overall, our reviewer dubbed it an "elegant e-reader that is enjoyable to use."

If you're searching for a solid pair of noise-cancelling earbuds that won't break the bank, the Beats Studio Buds will make a great summer travel companion. Mashable tech reporter Alex Perry called them "Apple's new go-to entry-level earbuds" when they first came out in 2021, claiming they "put entry-level AirPods to shame." They're equipped with decent ANC, transparency mode, spatial audio, a 24-hour battery life (thanks to the included charging case), comfortable eartips in a variety of sizes, and compatibility with both Apple and Android devices. They're no longer the latest or greatest Beats earbuds, but they still have a lot to offer. And at just $79.95, they're back at their lowest price to date. That's 47% in savings.

Released in Oct. of 2023, the third-gen Echo Show 8 serves as a central smart hub for your home. Use it to control your lights and security cameras, make video calls, stream movies, jam out to your favorite tunes, or follow along with recipes while you cook. The third-gen device does everything better than the previous iteration, which we were also big fans of. It features a centered 13MP front camera for clearer calls, a dynamic interface that adjusts what's on the screen based on how near or far you are to it, and spatial audio for more immersive listening. As of May 6, it's on sale for just $99.99 — that's 33% off its usual cost and just $10 shy of its all-time low.
